Project Spotlight: Sommer Sports Complex
Perhaps one of the few things growing faster than the population of Herriman is the number of amateur and competitive sport teams that train and compete throughout the region. Programs provide training and development for players that run all year long; finding facilities to accommodate these activities is always at a premium. When completed, the new Sommer Sports Complex will offer two full-sized basketball courts for rental in an area where this type of recreational facility is currently not available.
Working with Hadco Construction, the FOCUS construction staking crew provided civil and building staking services for the new site. Located directly west of Herriman High School, the 2.66-acre site will be built out in two phases. This initial phase includes roughly half the site, 1.3 acres. FOCUS Layout Manager Cole Finan recognized it was very important his team strictly hold horizontal and vertical information from approved plans. “We verified and tied in the locations of existing improvements before construction began,” Cole explains. “Thankfully all went well, but if there were a discrepancy, we would have coordinated a fix for it at that time.”
In addition to the 12,960-SF sports facility building, the site also includes 60 parking stalls and landscaping. The care taken with the site design ensures adequate infrastructure for current and future needs.
When completed, the Sommer Sports Complex will provide a sports facility that will not only help improve the health of Herriman residents, but also the area’s economic viability.
