Meet Cody Linden, Structural Engineer

By Focus Engineering In Team No comments

Cody Linden brings passion and precision to every project he works on. His career has been shaped by his love for the mountains and the communities that thrive within them. In moving from the mountains of Colorado to Utah, Cody found himself at FOCUS as a structural engineer. He has truly enjoyed working on custom homes in the Wasatch Mountain range.

Cody originally studied Mechanical Engineering before finding his home in the structural world. Transitioning into a new discipline brought challenges, “With experience, study, and great mentors I’ve been able to expand my structural knowledge from production to commercial and custom-home projects,” he says. “I’m excited to keep learning more.”

Building Community through Design

When asked about the people who have inspired him, Cody reflects on mentors who taught him the value of keeping designs simple, “I’ve always admired their ability to solve problems with simple solutions. This has influenced me to strive to learn more, gain more experience, and stay open-minded so that I can do the same.” Their approach to problem solving motivates Cody to keep learning as he designs structures that balance strength and creativity.

Outside of work, Cody finds his flow on the mountain. Whether the conditions are powder, ice, or a slushy spring day, he loves to be out snowboarding. For Cody it is rewarding to contribute to the mountain community that he holds so close. He also enjoys giving back to the engineering community, as he takes pride in sharing his knowledge with new engineers and watching them develop their skills and confidence. “It’s exciting to watch them learn and take their designs even further,” he says.

Looking Ahead

Cody is excited about the way technology continues to transform the AEC industry. He values how design software and tools like Archicad and Revit make collaboration easier and projects more efficient. “This is exciting as it will improve collaboration and efficiency in the design to build process,” says Cody. “Helping the industry as a whole to be more productive, safe, sustainable, and capable of taking on more complex designs.”

When asked about architectural inspiration Cody recalls visiting the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. The scale, craftsmanship, and historic significance of the structure left a lasting impression. Closer to home, he and his wife admire Scandinavian, Modern, and Log Cabin homes for their simplicity and honesty in design.

At FOCUS, Cody has learned that strong communication is the foundation of great design. “When everyone is on the same page and complications are avoided, efficient and elegant structures come together,” he says. Cody reflects his priority to listen to others and communicate through strong collaborations with his team as he continually contributes to FOCUS successes.
