Meet Bradley Weston, Transportation

By FOCUS Consulting In Team No comments

Bradley Weston is a civil engineering intern at FOCUS and an engineering student at Brigham Young University. His path into the AEC industry began with simple curiosity and family influence, though he didn’t immediately realize how meaningful the field would become to him. As he explains, “My grandpa was a civil engineer, and not fully knowing what I wanted to do with my degree, I declared it as a fail-safe. Shortly after though, I fell in love with the direct impact you can have in the world.” That impact continues to fuel his passion for the work he does today.

Outside of his work and studies, Bradley enjoys being outdoors as much as possible. Hiking, exploring the mountains, traveling, and playing pickleball are some of his favorite ways to unwind and recharge.

A Career Taking Shape

A defining moment in Bradley’s early career came at a BYU career fair, where he met Jason Watson, Transportation department manager at FOCUS. Although he felt inexperienced at the time, he was eager to learn, and that enthusiasm opened the door to his internship. Bradley reflects on that experience with appreciation, saying it was invaluable to see how his coursework translated into real engineering applications. Becoming part of FOCUS remains one of the most rewarding steps in his journey so far, and he speaks highly of the people and culture that surround him.

Mentorship has played an important role in Bradley’s growth. His grandfather, who recently retired after a long career in civil engineering, helped design significant portions of the community where he lives. Seeing that lasting influence inspires Bradley as he considers the type of legacy he hopes to create. He also appreciates the engineering behind LDS temples, noting their craftsmanship, detail, and thoughtful design. One of his favorites is the Washington D.C. Temple, a landmark he admires for its striking presence on the East Coast landscape.

Like many aspiring engineers, Bradley faced challenging foundational courses early in his academic journey. Those classes helped shape strong habits of focus and discipline that continue to support his progress today. One of his favorite projects during his internship has been contributing to the design of a critical roadway in a new Herriman development. The realization that countless people will use the infrastructure he has helped design gives him a sense of purpose and pride. Reflecting on his long-term goals, Bradley shares, “I want to get to a position where I can help other people succeed. I’m on the shoulders of so many people who have helped me, and I hope to someday provide the support I’ve received.”

Looking Ahead

At BYU, Bradley is involved with the ASCE chapter, where he enjoys working with fellow students and staying engaged with the engineering community. He sees tremendous potential in the future of the AEC industry, especially with the increasing role of AI and intelligent systems. Rather than viewing these changes as intimidating, he hopes to embrace them and find ways to use new technologies to improve design processes and solve problems more efficiently.

Bradley shares that one of the most important lessons he has learned during his internship at FOCUS is the value of listening. Understanding what clients need is essential to delivering excellent work, but the lesson extends beyond engineering and has influenced the way he interacts with people in general.

FOCUS Consulting is proud to support Bradley in the early stages of his career and looks forward to seeing his continued growth, both as an engineer and as a leader in the making.
