Partner Profile: Baros Design
Bringing Clients’ Visions to Life with Detail and Accuracy
We had the opportunity to interview Tony Baros, architect and owner of Baros Design. After moonlighting for a few years at a larger firm, Tony started his own practice in 2008. FOCUS Engineering & Surveying has been collaborating with Tony since 2017, providing structural support during the design development phases of his projects. In the last eight years, FOCUS has collaborated with Baros Design to produce 56 projects.
Commitment to Detailed Plans and Accurate Budgets
What sets Tony apart is his dedication to delivering detailed sets of plans to clients, enabling them to bid confidently with an accurate budget. This commitment to thoroughness is rooted in a pivotal experience early in his career. Tony recalls taking on a project for a neighbor, where he agreed to provide a simplified, budget-friendly set of plans. The project, however, encountered significant cost overruns, revealing how cutting corners on planning can lead to unexpected complications down the road. This experience became a turning point for Tony. He quickly realized that providing detailed, accurate plans from the outset was key to ensuring smooth project execution and avoiding costly surprises. From that point on, he committed to delivering high-quality, well-detailed plans for every project.
Client Satisfaction as a Priority
One of the ways that Baros Design aligns with FOCUS is through their emphasis on customer service. For Tony, the main priority in delivering a successful project is client satisfaction. He focuses on creating high-quality designs while keeping clients informed throughout the entire design process. According to Tony, the best feeling is seeing a pleasantly surprised customer witness the final product of his designs. This focus on client happiness is a core value that drives the way he approaches every project, from initial design to final completion.
A Collaborative and Tailored Design Process
The design process varies for each client’s unique needs, all while adhering to AIA standards. The general approach involves close collaboration between Tony and his clients, following the five stages of design: programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and permitting and bidding. Throughout these stages, Tony prides himself on delivering an aesthetic design that meets his clients’ needs.
While clients within this industry often have visions of what they want from their home, Tony maintains frequent communication to guide clients and bring their vision to life. As he puts it, “My goal is not to make a monument to myself, but to help clients build their dream home.”
