Copper Rim—Collaborations and Improvements in West Jordan, Utah
Project Overview
Copper Rim is a master-planned community comprising 731 units, including 560 single-family homes, 171 townhomes, and various commercial buildings. FOCUS became involved after Villages 1–3 were either completed or under construction. The planning phase began in mid-2023, focusing on amending and redesigning the Preliminary Development Plan (PDP) and master plan layout. Since then, FOCUS’s site civil and survey teams have undertaken preliminary design work for Phases 4–9.
Scope of Work
FOCUS was engaged to revise and enhance the existing Copper Rim PDP, originally developed by another firm. We provided strategic planning and recommendations to align the exhibits with the client’s vision. Adapting to changing market conditions and incorporating feedback from West Jordan City officials, FOCUS updated both the current and new exhibits within the PDP, integrating these changes with the master plan.
Preserving History
A notable aspect of this project was the historical wash running through the middle of the site. Despite the wash’s appearance as an empty field, the West Jordan City Council mandated its preservation. FOCUS responded by adjusting the master plan to incorporate the wash effectively, meeting the city’s expectations and improving upon the original design.
Quick Turnaround
One of the project’s major challenges was the timely update and assembly of designs and documents. The extensive scope required meticulous attention to detail, with several days dedicated to document compilation and coordination with West Jordan City officials. FOCUS collaborated closely with both the client and the city, applying innovative solutions throughout the development process to ensure project success and meet all stakeholder expectations.
