FOCUS Engineering & Surveying has had the opportunity to work on various K-12 education projects, including recent additions at Providence Hall High School in Herriman, Utah, and Juan Diego Catholic High School in Draper, Utah. Our construction staking team has collaborated closely with Eckman Construction and other subcontractors to help bring these important projects to life.

Providence Hall High School: Turf Football Field and Bleacher Complex

At Providence Hall High School, FOCUS provided site construction surveying for a turf football field and a uniquely integrated bleacher facility. The bleachers featured an innovative design with restrooms, a concession stand, a scorekeeper area, and team rooms built directly into the bleachers. Spanning the full length of the football field, this facility required precise staking to ensure accurate construction.

Challenges arose when the original survey and design plans indicated that the field’s size and elevation did not align with existing site conditions. The designed field would be too large for the available space. To address this, FOCUS conducted thorough site data collection, including drone flights, to capture accurate topographic information. Through ongoing consultation and precise stake placement, the team ensured subcontractors could build each component with confidence and accuracy.

Juan Diego Catholic High School: Curved Building Addition and Site Improvements

At Juan Diego Catholic High School, the project involved a curved building addition housing new classrooms and a performing arts section, along with improvements to the school’s entrance and parking areas. Construction occurred during the school year, requiring careful scheduling, taking advantage of school breaks, to minimize disruption.

FOCUS provided expert construction staking services for the addition and associated site improvements. The team navigated challenges such as limited plan details and the discovery of unmarked utilities onsite. Close collaboration with Eckman Construction and other subcontractors allowed for real-time data collection and quick feedback loops. Using robotic total station technology, FOCUS maintained wall placement accuracy within 1/8 inch. This crucial factor allowed construction to fit prefabricated structural steel components precisely within the building.
