FOCUS has recently partnered with Uncommon Architects to design and engineer multiple stake center buildings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Stake centers are the designated meetinghouses for local stakes, which is a grouping of several congregations. These projects span across Utah, including Saratoga Springs, Elk Ridge, Kaysville, Heber, Santaquin, and Hurricane.

In Hurricane, FOCUS provided structural engineering services for a 23,000-square-foot stake center. The goal was to enhance the original plans for improved constructability and cost-efficiency, supporting both the client’s vision and the building’s long-term functionality.

Collaborative Coordination

From the outset, the team adopted a collaborative, solutions-focused approach. The initial design presented several constructability challenges, prompting FOCUS to work closely with the client and contractor to refine the structural layout. Our team developed detailed plans in Revit, incorporating unique features such as large partition doors and a steeple.

To clearly distinguish revised structural elements from the original concept, FOCUS implemented transparent, thoughtful changes. This proactive coordination minimized on-site confusion and supported efficient, confident construction.

Solving for the Future

Clear communication was essential throughout the process. By maintaining close contact with the construction team, FOCUS ensured questions were resolved promptly and all updates were accurately reflected in the final plans. Much of the project’s complexity lay in adapting an existing design to be more buildable and economical without sacrificing intent.

Through hands-on coordination and attention to construction needs, FOCUS delivered solutions that addressed immediate challenges. Altogether, these efforts supported the long-term performance and usability of the facility.
