Panorama Mixed-Use Development

Extending 9000 South, a major east/west arterial roadway, from 6400 West, where it currently ends, to Bachus Highway (U-111) a mile to the east, is a critical component of West Jordan’s long-term transportation master plan. FOCUS was tasked with designing this roadway extension, which was a collaborative effort with West Jordan City and Gardner Group and Ivory Development, which were developing residential communities on both sides of the new roadway.

As part of West Jordan’s vision for the corridor to eventually transition into a UDOT-owned roadway, the city requested that the project be designed to UDOT specifications. FOCUS aligned with state transportation standards to perform engineering design of the full roadway width, including utilities, curb, gutter, sidewalk, signing, striping, signals, and right of way.

Collaborative Coordination

With extensive experience in delivering UDOT-compliant projects, our transportation team developed a preliminary design and worked hand-in-hand with both West Jordan City and UDOT to ensure every element met the required specifications.

Clear and consistent communication with stakeholders was essential to the success of the project. FOCUS facilitated productive dialogue between West Jordan City, UDOT, and adjacent property owners to ensure transparency and alignment throughout the design phase. The input gathered during the various project meetings directly informed the direction of the final design. Altogether, this helped foster a sense of shared investment in the project’s success.

Solving for the Future

Utility design proved to be one of the most complex aspects of the 9000 South Extension. It required accommodating the infrastructure needs of future area developments. FOCUS navigated these challenges through close coordination with stakeholders and a proactive approach to problem-solving. By maintaining open lines of communication and a flexible design mindset, our team was able to deliver an efficient, forward-looking solution that will serve the West Jordan community for years to come.
