
Partner Profile: Momentum Development Group
Jordanelle Ridge is a large master-planned community located on the Wasatch Back. Originally started by Sorenson Development under the late James LaVoy Sorenson, the development has been managed by Momentum Development Group for several years after the formation of the Sorenson Legacy Foundation. Since then, the team at Momentum has carried forward the vision of the Jordanelle Ridge development.
We spoke with Matt Watson, Project Manager at Momentum, to learn more about their history, their approach to large-scale planning, and their latest collaboration with FOCUS.
From Legacy to Long-Term Vision
Matt explains, “We have worked on several master-planned communities over the last thirty years, but Jordanelle Ridge is one of the larger communities we have worked on in terms of geographic size.”
One of Momentum’s most exciting current projects is Marcella at Jordanelle Ridge, a luxury residential community that blends mountain living with world-class amenities. “It’s a high-end portion of the Jordanelle Ridge development,” says Matt. “It will have two golf courses including a course designed by Tiger Woods, which is under construction now.” The Marcella community also includes access to ski experiences through a partnership with Marcella at Deer Valley. FOCUS has been working closely with Momentum and Jordanelle Ridge on the northern portion of the development. This includes around 250 custom home lots ranging from half an acre to two acres. “There will be a family clubhouse with pool and tennis facilities, a golf clubhouse, and of course the golf courses,” Matt shares. “It’s really a unique setting. There are fairways on top of the mountain with amazing views.”
As a large and multi-phase development, Jordanelle Ridge requires a team that’s aligned in vision and attentive to every detail. “FOCUS has been great to work with,” Matt says. “We’ve been impressed with their responsiveness and how they’ve helped us keep the project moving forward.” He adds that Momentum brought FOCUS on board after being impressed through secondhand collaboration on a neighboring development. “It’s a large enough project that we work with several engineers. When we needed additional support, we knew FOCUS could help.”
Planning for Decades to Come
Marcella is just one piece of the broader Jordanelle Ridge master plan. The overall development spans roughly 8,000 acres, a significant portion of which will remain open space. Jordanelle Ridge has already developed an expansive network of hiking and biking trails in coordination with the Wasatch Trails Foundation. They plan to continue expanding that access in the years ahead. At Momentum, project success is all about long-term thinking. “It starts with thoughtful planning and continues with a team that’s really into the details at every phase, from entitlement to construction,” Matt says, adding that it also requires alignment with the municipalities and agencies involved. “We’ve found success by working toward common goals. Cities and counties want to see high-quality development. We try to clearly communicate our vision so they can see the value we’re bringing.”
