Project Spotlight: Redwood Rd/Hudson Way Traffic Signal

FOCUS collaborated with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and The Boyer Company to design a new traffic signal at the intersection of Redwood Road and Hudson Way. As Lehi and its surrounding communities continue to experience rapid growth, infrastructure improvements like this project are essential to support expanding residential, commercial, and industrial areas.

Project Overview

Hudson Way is a newly constructed city street that connects Redwood Road to a large industrial complex to the west and the Holbrook Master Planned Community to the east. Lehi City and UDOT identified the signal as a priority improvement. The area’s accelerating development further advanced the need for its design and installation.

Collaboration and Design Approach

FOCUS worked closely with UDOT to design a signal that provides protected left-turn movements both to and from Redwood Road, improving safety and traffic flow for all users. Because the east leg of Hudson Way is not yet constructed, our team strategically coordinated with internal civil and transportation design groups to position the signal poles in their ultimate locations, aligning with future pedestrian ramps and sidewalks.

This forward-thinking approach ensures that as future development continues, the signal infrastructure will not require relocation or replacement, saving both time and cost for the city and developers.

Coordination and Equipment Management

Throughout the design process, FOCUS coordinated closely with UDOT on signal equipment specifications and state-furnished materials. This process ensured that all components were accounted for and procured on schedule. This proactive communication helped avoid construction delays and streamlined project delivery.

The Hudson Way Traffic signal is currently operating with three approaches, and will be ready for a fourth leg once constructed. The signal will significantly enhance safety, improve access for both industrial and residential users, and support continued growth in one of Lehi’s fastest-developing areas.
