Meet Kaitlyn Jones, Site Civil Commercial
Kaitlyn Jones is a designer within the Site Civil Commercial department here at FOCUS. In high school, she planned to become a graphic designer but soon realized her strengths were better suited elsewhere. “My mom helped me realize that I really liked math and learning how things work,” she shared. With her dad working as a glazier, the AEC industry didn’t feel too unfamiliar. Kaitlyn began studying civil engineering and later joined FOCUS where everything clicked. “I started at FOCUS and fell in love with what I do,” she explains.
Outside of work, Kaitlyn’s knack for problem-solving reflects in her passion for working on cars, especially Mini Coopers. After teaching herself how to fix her first Mini, she discovered a love for the process. Today she owns three and continues to enjoy both working on and driving them.
Growth Through Mentorship
Kaitlyn has grown both personally and professionally during her four years at FOCUS. She credits much of that growth to the mentors who have supported her along the way. “I love being able to go to them with any question and I know that they will help me navigate the situation,” she stated. With their guidance she stepped out of her comfort zone and into a leadership role on her team. One of her biggest challenges has been learning to be comfortable without having all the answers immediately. “I am working on being confident that I will find the right answers,” Kaitlyn explained. That mindset has helped her grow into a stronger leader and teammate.
Projects and Perspective
One of Kaitlyn’s favorite projects was the Kearns Shiny Shell. She enjoyed learning how car washes are designed and understanding everything that goes into making them work. “It was one of the first projects I helped manage,” she reflected. The experience helped build her confidence and reinforced her interest in leadership and project coordination. “I really enjoy seeing the projects I have been a part of around the valley,” Kaitlyn added.
Kaitlyn values the FOCUS commitment to constant improvement and growth. Her long-term goals include building a team that clients look forward to working with, and leaving a lasting impact by helping those around her be successful. “At FOCUS, we are striving to build a better place.” she emphasized. It is this mindset that continues to motivate Kaitlyn as she builds her legacy and shapes her career.
