Meet Austin White, Transportation
Austin White is a Project Manager on the Transportation team at FOCUS. Outside of work, he spends most of his time with his newborn son. He describes fatherhood as hugely rewarding. He also enjoys golfing, hunting, playing D&D, and spending time with his two cats.
AEC Interests
Austin’s interest in engineering began in eighth grade. He wanted to make an impact in his community by designing infrastructure that supports everyday life. That included the roads community members drive on, the homes they live in, and the buildings where they work. This interest eventually led him to pursue a career in the AEC industry.
Austin has served as Treasurer for the American Society of Civil Engineers Wasatch Branch Young Members Forum (ASCE YMF) for three years. Through the organization, he has connected with other young professionals along the Wasatch Front. He also helps create opportunities for members to build relationships. His involvement helps university students connect with professionals, receive scholarships, and learn about the industry.
As someone who commutes from Davis County, Austin especially appreciates Legacy Parkway (SR-67) and the West Davis Corridor (SR-177). He enjoys views of the wetlands and Great Salt Lake to the west and the Wasatch Mountains to the east. These highways make his commute more comfortable and help connect Davis and Salt Lake counties.
Learning and Growing at FOCUS
Austin values the opportunities FOCUS gives him to learn, grow, and push himself professionally. He considers the partners, department managers, and project managers on his team some of his biggest mentors. Their guidance has helped him build skills beyond the engineering basics he learned in school.
The Panorama development has especially challenged Austin to grow. The project involves extensive earthwork, large roadways, steep slopes, and complex grading considerations. These challenges require close coordination between the FOCUS team and developers. For Austin, Panorama has reinforced the importance of working through unfamiliar challenges and focusing on solutions. Each experience helps him continue growing as an engineer and project manager.
