Partner Profile: Tri Pointe Homes
As a premium lifestyle builder, Tri Pointe Homes takes a thoughtful approach to community development, designing neighborhoods and homes that are tailored to each location and the people who will live there. Rather than relying on a standard catalog of floor plans, Tri Pointe creates communities with a focus on long-term value, functionality, and quality.
We recently spoke with Ben Hansen, Director of Land Development at Tri Pointe Homes, about the company’s approach to development, the importance of strong partnerships, and what continues to drive its growth throughout Utah.
Designed with Purpose
For Tri Pointe Homes, creating a successful community starts long before construction begins. Every aspect of a project is carefully considered, from land planning and architecture to the overall resident experience. “We are a premium lifestyle builder,” Ben explains. “Every level product is very well thought out and planned, from the beginning stages of land development through final home construction.”
A key part of that philosophy is designing communities specifically for their location. Rather than reusing plans from project to project, Tri Pointe develops homes that complement the unique character of each neighborhood. One example is a project at Holladay Hills, where Tri Pointe has created townhomes designed exclusively for that site. Features such as ten-foot ceilings, balconies, and thoughtfully planned layouts help create a living experience that stands apart from typical developments. “Those townhome units were 100% designed and developed for that location,” Ben says.
Creating Community Value
That attention to detail extends beyond the homes themselves. FOCUS Consulting collaborated with Tri Pointe at Canyon Park in Orem, where Tri Pointe chose to incorporate a community park even though city regulations did not require it. The company removed two residential lots to make room for the amenity, creating a gathering space that benefits both future homeowners and surrounding neighbors.
“We eliminated two lots to put this park in,” Ben says. “It was something that we felt we wanted to do from the beginning of the community. The park was completed 4 weeks prior to the model homes being completed. Now, as future homeowners visit us for the first time, they can see the amenity from the beginning and know the value this park already brings to the community.” For Ben, decisions like these reflect Tri Pointe’s commitment to creating value that lasts long after construction is complete. By investing in amenities that enhance everyday life, the company aims to build communities where residents feel connected and supported.
Built on Relationships
Successful development requires more than thoughtful design. Ben notes that every project comes with challenges, from navigating entitlement processes to working through changing market conditions. Strong relationships play an important role in overcoming those challenges and keeping projects moving forward. Drawing on years of experience in Utah’s homebuilding industry, Tri Pointe has built its local team around trusted partnerships and industry expertise. “We’re loyal to those relationships as we’re building this company here,” Ben says. That philosophy extends to the company’s partnership with FOCUS. Ben’s relationship with the firm spans more than fifteen years, creating a foundation of trust and collaboration that continues today. “I’ve got nothing but good things to say about FOCUS,” he shares.
Looking ahead, Tri Pointe Homes remains focused on thoughtful growth throughout Utah. Ben describes the company as “the best of big and small,” combining the resources of a national builder with the insight and experience of a local team. Rather than focusing solely on volume, Tri Pointe is committed to creating communities that deliver lasting value for residents. “What we’re striving for is to create a value that contributes to that premium lifestyle that our buyers are looking for,” Ben says. As Tri Pointe Homes continues to expand across Utah, that commitment to intentional design, community investment, and meaningful relationships remains at the center of everything they do. At FOCUS, we are proud to support Tri Pointe Homes and look forward to continuing our partnership in the years ahead.
