Rail Trail Pedestrian Crossing
The historic Rail Trail is an old Union Pacific railroad track that dates back to the 1880s. The 28-mile trail runs from Park City to Echo Reservoir and is used year-round by bikers, hikers, horseback riders, cross-country skiers, and fishers.
Working with Park City and Ivory Homes, FOCUS was tasked with upgrading the pedestrian crossing at Richardson Flat Road adjacent to the Park City Heights development. FOCUS designed a new trail to connect the development to the rail trail as well as a new bridge over the wetlands. As part of the new crossing, FOCUS designed signing that includes flashing beacons to enhance driver awareness that pedestrians are present. New striping across Richardson Flat Road serves to improve visibility.
Our team worked with Park City and the private developer to determine what each entity was responsible for and coordinated with the contractor to identify signage locations.
