Transitioning to a new career presented many challenges. Being new to the industry required learning about specific process nuances, technical skills, and involvement in city processes. “It was like learning a whole new language!” said Dennis.

Relying on a great team of mentors that allowed him to learn and grow from failures and successes was essential. “I owe everything to FOCUS, who was willing to see me through growing pains and provide guidance and feedback to keep me constantly improving and growing,” said Dennis.

He is eager to see the ongoing development of tools that enhance communication, information collection, and design, ultimately improving communities’ experiences.

Fun and Light-hearted Facts

As a child, Dennis’s father aimed to instill a love for nature and the beauty of Idaho’s mountains in his children. He raised and trained pack llamas to carry their overnight backpacking gear. A young Dennis learned to train and guide pack llamas through the mountains. He enjoyed being miles away from civilization, thanks to their help!
