Paul Mitchell The School was engineered by the FOCUS structural team. services for Paul Mitchell The School, an 11,000 sq. ft. masonry retail shell building located in Provo, Utah. The goal for the FOCUS structural team was to provide a cost-effective design that would be simple to build while meeting the architectural needs of the project.

Paul Mitchell The School involved typical masonry construction, with unique metal stud pop-outs on the exterior. These pop-outs required special detailing in the designs provided by FOCUS. The client requested an open layout, which our team addressed by incorporating a beam-column line down the middle of the building. We aimed to balance the use of steel beams with the number of columns, to reduce the size of these beams. Consultation with the client involved presenting options and potential adjustments to the architectural model to help simplify the structural design and reduce costs. By working collaboratively with the client to find solutions, FOCUS ensured that the client remained informed throughout the project’s progression.
