FOCUS Engineering & Surveying has long been committed to enhancing transportation infrastructure across Utah. At the heart of these efforts is our ongoing partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT).

UDOT’s mission is to enhance quality of life through transportation, with a focus on improving mobility, supporting good health, building connected communities, and fostering a strong economy. By aligning our expertise in transportation engineering with UDOT’s strategic goals, we contribute to projects that address Utah’s evolving transportation needs.

A Shared Vision for Transportation Excellence

The FOCUS Transportation department frequently collaborates with developers and clients seeking consultation and guidance on projects that must comply with UDOT regulations. With extensive experience working alongside UDOT, we serve as a one-stop shop for expertise in the permit access process. We streamline procedures and save clients valuable time as they work to enhance mobility through connected roadways.

Our partnership with UDOT spans a wide range of impactful projects. A recent example is the intersection improvement at SR-87 and 2000 South in Duchesne County, where FOCUS was contracted by UDOT to redesign and improve the intersection. The project involved widening 2000 South to better accommodate large vehicles. FOCUS transportation engineers worked closely with UDOT and Duchesne County to coordinate the necessary right-of-way acquisition. They collaborated with our survey and right-of-way design teams to follow UDOT’s right-of-way process, ensuring timely delivery of all documentation and staying within budget. Surveys, legal descriptions, property research, and exhibits were all prepared to support successful land acquisition and project completion.

Another major collaboration involved the I-15 Reconstruction project from 7200 S to 9000 S, where FOCUS supported concrete repair efforts along a critical two-mile corridor. To minimize disruption, the project teams conducted all work overnight. Using drone imaging, our team identified surface deficiencies, such as cracks and potholes. From there, we could make data-driven decisions about targeted sealing or full panel replacement. Quick-setting concrete was used to make repairs overnight to ensure lanes reopened each morning. Strong coordination with UDOT allowed for this precise planning and execution.

FOCUS also played a key role in upgrades to the SR-71 (900 East) and 6600 South intersection in Murray. Designed to enhance traffic flow and safety, the project involved replacing most of the signal equipment. The project teams installed two new signal foundations, and reusing two existing ones. The east leg of 6600 South was also re-striped for improved lane alignment. Throughout the project, the FOCUS team maintained close communication with UDOT and local utility companies. This ensured a smooth and timely project delivery.

Among many others, these projects highlight not only our technical expertise but also our ability to work closely with UDOT and local stakeholders to deliver solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability across Utah’s transportation network.

Looking Ahead: A Continued Partnership

As Utah continues to grow, the demand for innovative and efficient transportation solutions becomes increasingly important. FOCUS remains committed to supporting UDOT in its mission to provide a safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation system. Through our continued collaboration, we aim to contribute to infrastructure that benefits both current residents and future generations.
